Support for Students

Nurturing the Individual Learner

Individual Learning Style

A cornerstone of our approach to teaching recognizes that each child has different learning needs. Because of our small class sizes and skilled faculty, we are able to respond and adapt to individual learning styles. Whether a child requires remedial support, acceleration, or social support, we do our best to ensure a responsive environment.

The course program, small classroom populations, and classroom methodology at The Pathfinder School allow for some flexibility in addressing individual students’ needs; however, all students are expected to, at least, work to meet appropriate mastery of material. The Pathfinder School attempts to differentiate the curriculum for individual students; however, we can do so only within the structures inherent in our school (i.e., faculty, facilities, and financial resources). Student issues are addressed individually with sensitivity towards consistency in how we treat all students.

Social Emotional Learning

Pathfinder educates the whole child, for both inside and outside the classroom. Social growth and emotional awareness are critical components to every child's learning journey. At Pathfinder each class has one period per week with the school counselor focused on their social/emotional growth. The classes are focused on critical social/emotional milestones for each age, and taught specifically to help that age group navigate the changes they are experiencing individually, and as a community.

NWEA Assessment

Individualized instruction starts with individualized assessment. Pathfinder assesses their students at three points during the year to help create individual instruction plans, shape classroom curriculum, and insure students are receiving the attention they need.

NWEA Map Growth says "NWEA delivers the insights that help students learn, teachers teach, and leaders lead. Our proven assessment solutions, customized professional learning, and industry-leading research keep you ahead of the curve as times and standards change."

We believe as a faculty and staff, that knowing where our students are is the best way to help shape where our students are going, and to help them have access to the best education possible we prioritize their learning as an individual.
