Dear Families,

We have been having a whale of a good time in class this week.  Blowing through straws in tubes in water, trying on flippers, painting with flippers on our hands, combing for food with baleen and running the length of a blue whale (100 feet long) that we measured outside kept our bodies busy. The M/W/F class worked together to make a huge blue whale. It has been fun singing “Down by the Bay” with silly sea rhymes so we had to make a whale with a polka dotted tail. Everyone is getting better at identifying rhymes. Ask your child what can fit on a blue whale’s tongue. It is amazing. Comparisons are being made between a blue whale and an orca whale. We have been comparing size and kind of teeth. There will be some puppets coming home soon to show the behavior of orca whales.  To our sea dance we have added some whale moves.

The children have been adding sea life to their dramatic play like using camouflage to hide like an octopus. It is wonderful to see them getting excited looking in the sea books.  The last few weeks the children have really been involved in their play with each other. Yeah!
