A Message from our Head of School

Welcome to The Pathfinder School!

What drew my family to Pathfinder was the clear and vibrant warmth of this community. It is a healthy place in every imaginable way: in the physical experience of hustling from building to building, and in meandering through our wooded campus; in the spirited conversations about the best, most delightful ways to learn and live; in the creative sweep of art and language in their many forms; in the manifest delight that children in our school take in their pursuits.

Our teachers ask, “How are all things connected?”. They seek every opportunity to guide and challenge our students in answering this fundamental question. Our students read poetry—and they write poetry. They conduct biological studies alongside our lakeshore—and they design studies. They learn the history of Grand Traverse—and they teach it. In the end, our students never fail to astonish and delight us with their ability to answer questions—and, better still, to ask them.

A child who asks meaningful questions is one who loves learning, and this above all is our greatest, most sustainable goal. One by one, our students take their place in the wider world with respect, excitement, and commitment. Our alumni repay the devotion of their teachers in a hundred ways, but never more so than when they pursue their goals equipped with both the imagination and the tools that a Pathfinder education helped them discover, develop and celebrate.

Please take a few minutes to learn a little more about Pathfinder from our website. Better still, come visit, and see first-hand the potential moments for magic and deep learning in a school without hallways, where an education without limits is always in process.
