Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten Enrollment Policy
At Pathfinder, we afford parents many options for the schedules of their Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students. We recognize that at this young age, not all children are ready for a full day of school. Below is our policy for Enrollment of these two classes as well as our Mid-Year Enrollment Options. Beginning of School Year
At the start of the year, Pre-K prospective students are offered the following options based on availability:
- M, W, F – Half
- M, W, F, - FULL
- T, TH – Half
- T, TH – Full
- 5 Half Days
- 5 Full Days
- 5 AM and 2 PM (T,TH)
- 5 AM and 3 PM (M,W,F)
At the start of the year, Kindergarten prospective students are offered the following options based on availability:
- 5 Half Days
- 5 Full Days
- 5 Mornings and 3 Afternoons (M, W, F)
- 5 Mornings and 2 Afternoons (T, TH)
We offer the options listed above in order to maintain a consistent classroom dynamic, build curriculum around those student needs and emergent interests as well as to cultivate the appropriate number and gender balance of students in each grouping.
Mid-Year Check In & Day Extension
STEP ONE | Consult with your Teacher - At Mid-Year, Pre-K parents can consult with their teachers about extending their child’s program from Half to Full Days.
Parents may extend on the M, W, F format or T, Th.
NOTE: If a Monday is chosen as the extension day and later that parent decides to add another Full Day, they must add either a Wednesday or a Friday. If the parent chooses a Tuesday to extend, and then decides to extend an additional day, they would have to extend Thursdays.
If you are interested in expanding your child's schedule from 2 or 3 days to 5 Full Days, we will need to take these steps and also look at classroom availability.
STEP TWO | Parents Connect with Admissions & Finance: Teachers will direct parents to Admissions and Finance for a dialogue about the shift from Half Day to Full Day. Teachers will email or provide a written recommendation about the child in question with their thoughts about extending the day as well as any concerns.
STEP THREE | Admissions & Teachers Connect: Admissions will connect with teachers following the parent discussion to schedule a “Trial Run” for the child and discuss any final concerns.
STEP FOUR | Trial Run: Admissions will invite child to try the Full day option for 2 days. After that point, Admissions and teachers will connect about the extension.
STEP FIVE | Notification of Placement: Admissions will contact Parents to notify them of a confirmed day extension or a temporary hold on the move in the best interests of the child.
